Quinta Do Lago Beach

Quinta do Lago has its own beach which Lies alongside the stunning Ria Formosa nature reserve. The beach offers white sand and is 3 kilometre long and protected by a line of sand dunes.

The beach is accessible only through the resort, with a small wooden bridge providing access over the Ria Formosa.

Quinta do Lago’s beach is one of the most natural parts of the coastline, offering amazing views of the ocean. The beach has been awarded the EU Blue Flag because of water quality, safety and environmental management.

Almancil is just a few minutes drive from Vale do Lobo and also Quinta do Lago. The area also has an abundance of all types of shops and businesses. The shops also stretch along the main road through the town which offers several banks, supermarkets, restaurants and cafes. There are also quite a few businesses which also have an English butchers and a fish and chip shop amongst them.

A very popular supermarket, at the western end of the town is Apolónia. They stock a range of vegan and vegetarian products including brands that you will be familiar with from the UK. If you enjoy cooking they have ingredients for every type of cuisine. They offer fresh meat, fish and deli, a bakery, good choice of fresh fruit and veg.

The town of Almancil is just a 15 minute drive from Faro airport and is probably as well known as the  two very exclusive resorts Vale Do Lobo and Quinta Do Lago For a great day out take a boat trip along the coast. You can enjoy dolphin watching, go on jeep safari or learn to surf. Visit one of the theme parks or enjoy some top pampering at a luxurious spa.

The go-cart track in Almancil is situated on the western exit and was built in 1992. The popular water park AquaShow between Almancil and Quarteira is the largest of its kind.
Vale Do Lobo

Vale do Lobo is said to be 3 times the size of Monaco. The resort is also known as one of the best golf and beach resort in the Algarve. Vale Do Lobo is still growing with new areas under development.

Vale do Lobo has it’s own medical centre and a supermarket and in the central Parque do Golfe complex. The area also has a bank, newsagents, wine shop, beauty centre and boutiques.

Vale do Lobo also offers a great selection of restaurants many of them on the square by the beach. The area also has a tennis academy which hosts a Masters Competition each year. The competition also brings some of the big name veterans from the tennis world and is home to Barringtons Club. The club also offers all types of sports facilities and is often used for training sessions by cricket and rugby teams

Entering Loulé from the south west there is a roundabout with a statue of 2 cyclists. Turn left and the road will also go past a Modelo supermarket and on towards the Nossa Senhora da Piedade Church. The road to the right leads to the centre of town. Go up the hill and there is an archway through the old walls which leads through to Largo da Matriz.

Loulé castle is just a short distance down the road from the market on the left hand side. From this approach you can’t tell it is a castle as their are no visible signs of the castle walls. Across the courtyard there lies the municipal museum. Next door to which are some steps also leading up to the remaining section of the castle walls.

Loulé Carnival is one of the biggest events in Loulé and is famous across the Algarve. It takes places in February and is a truly colourful affair with music and dancing and general partying. Like the carnival in Brazil people come from all over the Algarve. You can watch the processions and join in with the party as everyone takes to the streets. The centre of Loulé is shut off for the carnival and it costs a few euros for entrance

Easter time there is a religious Festival for the patron saint of Loulé. Which again attracts people from all over the country.

Faro offers much more than just a landing point in Portugal. The area is also full of shops, restaurants, cafes, theatres, and galleries. Faro also offers great beaches and the Ria Formosa nature reserve.
