Entrance: A small triangular shaped walled courtyard provides access to the house and an area to sit and chat with your neighbours.
Living room: Through the front door into the open plan living room and kitchen. There is a window next to the sink in the kitchen area which provides a view of the village. Immediately to the right of the front door is a good sized shower room. Approximate room size is 5x5m
Bedroom 1: The rooms are connected. From the living room you go through into what is currently bedroom 1. This is a relatively rectangular room and also has a window to provide natural light and a view out to the village. Approximate room size 4x3m
Bedroom 2: From bedroom 1 into this room which is slightly angled but larger at approximately 5x4m. It has a glazed door to the main street
Style: The house blends in with other village properties. It is rough plastered, painted white with blue windows, simple in style and has a flat roof
Work required: It would be possible to use the house in its simple form. However it will require the construction of a new septic tank. This could be located in the courtyard. As it is in the village, there is likely to be extra building density so could be made into a good sized 2 storey house. If part of the centre room is used as a staircase you could have a good 2 bedroom house and a superb roof terrace with magnificent sea and mountain views. The house appears to be in good and dry condition but would benefit from generally updating.
General area information: The village of Plaka has many old houses and there is a large square where you can sit under the shelter of large trees. Kostas’ supermarket is surprisingly good and stocks fresh meat & various vegetables that are hard to find in other typical Greek supermarkets in Crete. They also have fresh bread, cigarettes and most items you would require. Kostas and his family are very friendly and helpful. Almyrida beach is about 1km from Plaka. Here you will find ATM machines, souvenir shops, bakeries, several minimarkets, bars and plenty of very good tavernas.
Summary: This is an excellent property for lovers of traditional Cretan living but close to the beach.
