Lagos which is situated on the western part of the Algarve also has a lot of history. Throughout the years Lagos has become a respected holiday destination for many tourists. The area also offers its visitors beaches, buzzing nightlife and a charming historic centre. Lagos also has numerous enjoyable day trips which are easily accessible by public transport or arranged tours.

In the area you will also find water parks, zoos and historic monuments and much more. Lagos town centre is also surrounded by the ancient Moorish walls which extends along the harbour.

To the east of Lagos you will find the 4 kilometre long beach of Meia Praia. The beach is also the longest beach which sits on the western side of the Algarve. There are many interesting day trips from Lagos which includes the towns of Sagres, Silves, Luz and Portim√£o.

Day Trips Lagos
The two best day trips from Lagos are to the historic town of Silves and the surfing town of Sagres.
Sagres is at the western tip of mainland Europe and is a region savaged by ceaseless winds and mighty Atlantic seas. The town is a popular surfing destination and is ideal for tourists who appreciate nature’s raw power.

Silves was the ancient capital of the Algarve and remnants of this glorious past are found throughout the peaceful and relaxed town. The prominent feature of Silves is the massive red brick castle, while traditional houses and shops line the cobbled streets that lead down to the river.
Lagos Beaches
Extending to the east of Lagos is the 4km long Meia Praia Beach, while within the Ponta da Piedade headland are the picturesque cove beaches of Praia da Dona Ana, and Praia do Camilo.

On the south-western side of Lagos is the Porto de Mos beach, an area popular with resort hotels and holiday homes, and a great choice if you prefer not to be in the centre of the busy city.
Lagos Marina
There is a 500-space public car park which is located behind the old railway station.  The marina offers shops, restaurants and many bars. There is also a well supplied supermarket which is 200 metres from the north end of the marina.

On Saturdays, a farmer’s market takes place just across the lifting bridge. Lagos has plenty of shops open all year, only a 10 minutes’ walk from your berth.

Lagos Zoo
Located a few kilometres outside of the popular resort town itself is Lagos Zoo. The zoo offers plenty of animals among the beautiful landscaped subtropical gardens.

There are around 120 species of animal at the zoo. These include a good variety of birds such as toucans, pelicans, flamingos and parrots. There are exotic species including dwarf crocodiles, which complement the pygmy hippos nicely. ‚ÄúMonkey Island‚ÄĚ which, as the name suggests, is a small island on which a range of primates roam free. These include gibbons, lemurs and a host of monkeys.

Lagos Zoo is a great place to visit for those of all ages. There are two playground and a petting zoo featuring small farm animals which you can feed by hand.

The zoo tries to promote some conservation values with educational displays. Visitors can also view the incubation room where baby birds are hatched. You can also visit the ‚Äúcreate room‚ÄĚ in which baby animals are reared by hand.

Animals aside, the park is still a pleasant place to spend a day. With over 200 species of plants from around the world.
Surfing Lagos
The Praia de Mós beach is 3km to the south-west of central Lagos and is exposed to some of the largest waves of the Lagos region.

This makes the beach a popular destination for surfing or body boarding. There are also surfing schools and shops to hire equipment. Mós beach is connected to Lagos by the local bus network.
Wax Museum
The Portuguese Wax Museum of Discovery opened in Lagos in October 2014. The museum is located at the end of the Marina and divided into three large rooms. There are 16 different scenes which includes 22 wax models. Because of its location, Lagos was considered the centre of maritime exploration for the Portuguese.

You will journey through time at the Wax Museum of Discovery, and learn more about how the Portuguese discovered new worlds. You will also learn how the Portuguese had influence on the world. The wax figures help bring the stories alive for both adults and children.
Adventure Park Lagos
