      Hi

      I’ve just put in an offer on a property in Portugal. I now have to pay the deposit and I guess at some point the balance. What is the best way to send money to Portugal? I was going to use my bank.

        If you’re buying a property, use a currency specialist instead of your bank.

        They generally provide better exchange rates and can lock in a good rate for you.

        Also, if you are newbie to sending money overseas, they’ll hold your hand through it all.

        When I bought my place, I locked in the rate for the balance, when I paid the deposit. They helped me avoided losing £17k when the rates dropped at time the balance was due.

        Loads of companies out there to choose from, I used these guys http://www.hawkfx.com. Great service, awesome rates, and proactively helped me to get the maximum amount of euros for pounds.
