Alcantarilha is in the municipality of Silves and also offers the Capela dos Ossos. The Chapel of bones was constructed completely of skulls and thigh bones.

The town also offers a typical manor house which has been transformed into a rural hotel. The hotel also offers a private museum, the Capela das Artes.

The water park Aqualand is situated outside the village on the EN125 in the direction of Lagoa. Its huge water slide (The Big One) can already be seen from miles away.

The nearby Amendoeira Golf Resort consists of two great 18 hole golf courses. These 18 hole courses are Oceânico Nick Faldo and Oceânico O’Connor.

In 1999 Alcantarilha received the status of a village. Since 2013 it has been part of the parish Alcantarilha e Pêra, together with the neighbouring village of Pêra.
Silves is an enchanting town littered with orange and lemon trees, sitting on the banks of the Arade River. There is history everywhere you look in Silves, to remind you of its affluent and bold past as a Moorish capital. The importance of Silves lay in the fact that it was the main access to the inland areas of the Algarve.

The most prominent monument is Castelo de Silves, which is now the best preserved castle in the Algarve. The castle and the Cathedral beside it are sitting on the hilltop above the town. They are also the first buildings you see as you approach Silves.

Silves has a very pretty central square, Praça do Municipio. With palms and flowers, beautiful gardens, and a newly paved river front. If you would like to improve your fitness a little there is an exercise area which also has a ‘Life Trail Wellness Stations.

The municipal market building is also located on the main street opposite the river. Along this same street are numerous cafes with outside seating offering lovely river views. Within the town there are cobbled streets, cafes and shops. There are also some beautiful buildings from the times when Silves was a rich merchant’s town. There are also remnants of the old walls which include the tower which now houses the municipal library.

The finest tourist attraction of Silves is the imposing castle that dominates the skyline. The castle dates from the 7th century but the red sandstone brick battlements seen today originate from the 12th century, at the height of the fighting between the Christian Crusaders and the African Moors.
Armacao De Pera
Armação de Pêra is at the eastern end by the fishermen’s beach and is more typically Algarvean. On the beachfront you will find the 17th century fort. There is a chapel inside, dedicated to Santo António, which is also 17th century.

The views of the coast from the fort are of the beach which runs from the rocks and caves at the western end by Senhora da Rocha, to Praia de Galé.

Armação de Pêra has now become one of the most popular resorts on the Algarve with every form of entertainment and recreation.
